Same-Sex Attraction

Same-Sex Attraction

Why the church fights against it1
1.    Same-sex marriage would actually change laws in the United States
2.    It would have far-reaching consequences, opening a Pandora ’s Box of tremendously detrimental effects.
3.    It would severely undermine the status and meaning of marriage in ways that would mislead and confuse individuals, weaken society, and demean the institution of marriage.
4.    Same-sex unions are fraught with risks to the individuals involved, as well as to society.

Important information

By equalizing marriage and same-sex partnership, the law would convey a false, message that same-sex partnerships are just as safe, just as secure and contribute just as much to society as traditional marriages between a man and a woman.1

“Research is interpreted as support for the thesis that sexual orientation has no effect on children; however, it is used in a way that violates the logic of rigorous empirical science.” Also, “the research itself has little scientific merit because of errors in design, subject selection, and measurement.” 1

When focusing on the rise of same-sex relationships I’ve come to realize that not only is there a relationship formed that violates the only approved union in God’s eyes but also encourages cohabitation and secular thinking. You cannot procreate with someone of the same sex which the gift of procreation is one of the greatest Godlike abilities we’ve been given.

Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley gives explains why the Church has been so heavily involved in the effort to prevent legalization of same-sex marriage1

·       The sacred nature of marriage-that it ‘lies at the heart of the Lord’s eternal plan for His children’
·       That it is ‘a matter of morality’
·       The importance of the issue for the ‘moral fiber of society’
·       That male-female marriage has provided the ‘basis of civilization for thousands of years’
·       That preserving marriage for male-female union is ‘of critical importance to the future of the family’
·       That ‘we are compelled by our doctrine to speak out’
